NASA Reveals Shuttle Replacement | Posted on: Thursday, September 15th, 2011

So NASA has retired the Space Shuttles and left us with renting space on Russian rockets to get to the Space Station. We had a plan for replacing the shuttles, but the money got cut and things have been up in the air a bit.

NASA has finally given us a new plan and it looks a lot like a Saturn V rocket with SRB’s from the Shuttle strapped on.

The whole announcement was kind of weird. They spent a lot of time talking about how this new system will use
liquid fuel, but then backtracked and stated pretty plainly that those really are SRBs on the side (Solid Rocket Boosters).

Apparently this whole system is one we ‘grow’ into. We’re going to start with Solid Fuel and then move to liquid fuel later. I’ll be honest, I’m not sure this is a step forward, but only time will tell.
